Re: Transwarp GAL chips
Todd P. Whitesel <toddpw@ugcs.caltech.edu> spawned virtual particles writing:
: If the modern 65816's are a new layout, then I'd expect the REP/SEP problem
: to be a non-issue for them -- and unless there were other features in the
: GALs, it would seem to be sufficient grounds to update the FAQ.
Doesn't seem like it. My 15Mhz 65816 (14Mhz production 65816) fails to
execute some instruction (eg crashes) every random number of hours. I've
traced it to a SEP/REP mode change most of the time..
It regularly crashes in ORCA editor, but luckily, it's recoverable with
a R in GSBug.
In detail, the REP didn't reset the 65816 back into 16-bit mode so then
the cpu reads some 16-bit instruction (in 8-bit mode), and sees BRK ##
(## being some number or 0) instead of say jmp $002000. This of course
causes it go the BRK vector which is GSBug.
