    If the system has both a 5.25 and 3.5 floppy drive, make absolutely
sure you have the 3.5 plugged into the back of the machine _first_ with
the 5.25 drive daisy-chained off it and following last. Any 5.25 drives
must *always* come last.

    Next I suggest having a look at your Control Panel settings. Most
likely one or more settings were toggled by one of the children. Press
and hold down: Apple + Control + Esc, select the Control Panel option,
and then once inside, go and select 'Slots'. Examine the settings for
Slot #5 and Slot #6, both should have a small checkmark beside them to
indicate the default configuration. It should read "Smart port" and
"Disk port", make sure it does _not_ say "You Card". Next -- examine
the setting for 'Startup' and make sure it is set to "Scan". When you
are done, press the RETURN key to save the new settings and warm boot
the machine by pressing Apple + Control + Reset (this allows the new
settings to take affect).

    If you want to skip the above and try something a little less
time consuming -- turn on the machine while holding down 'Option'.
You should see a menu with four choices, marked 1 through 4. You
want to select option number 2, so simply press the "2" key and
your done. This will reset all Control Panel setting back to the
factory defaults.

    One question. What type of floppy disks are you using on the
system, 3.5" or 5.25"? Also, if your using a 5.25 drive, is the
color the same as the Apple IIgs computer (light grey) or is it
a large metal box with biege sides and a black front? The latter
needs to have the Control Panel settings the reverse of what I
mentioned above (due to the fact it connects with a slot card).
