It may be more trouble than it's worth to try to download system software
unless you're doing it on a computer that has an Apple compatible floppy
drive--which PCs don't unless you got a special purpose drive. It will also be
impractical to impossible, depending on your skills, to download to a PC and
move the information to an Apple //e that you can't boot because you don't have
boot disks.
The best free alternative is a local user's group. Many (like ours here in
Albuquerque) can whip off sets of system disks, and if they charge anything, it
will just be a dollar or two. A local school might also have some remaining
Apple II computers in use, and you might find a person willing to help.
Another alternative would be to order the system disks from us. The Byte Works
carries all of the Apple II APDA software, and among other things, this
includes complete system software for all of the Apple II models. If you'd like
an electronic price list, drop me a note to that effect. If you would like the
printed catalog, be sure and include a mailing address.
