Consult the documentation for your newsreader to figure out how to
turn OFF all that MIME/html/formatting crud it's spewing out. Usenet
is not the domain of fluff-formatted messages with the same content
duplicated multiple times for various machines. It's still read on a
lot of non-GUI terminals (especially in the Apple II areas) where any
form of formatting other than spaces and returns will get munged.

Try turning the power *OFF* and removing all cards. Turn back on
and see if it comes up to the Basic (']') prompt. Also, try a
control-open apple-closed apple-reset (all 4 keys at once) to self
test the system and see what it says. If you can get the computer to
function when there's nothing connected, start adding back in cards
one at a time until it doesn't work anymore-- that last card is quite
possibly bad and needing replacement. You can also press down firmly
on all socketed chips on the motherboard and cards to see if any have
become loosened in the sockets.
If you zapped a card with any static electricity by touching it,
odds are that card might be damaged now. Always be sure to take
precautions with electronics when you're around them: touching the
metal case of the power supply with the computer plugged in (not
necessarily on) is the recommended way to discharge any static
electricity you may be carrying.
