Downloading from internet for GS

I have a question - have a GS and try to get things from sites such as the
ground and I can never get them to work.  I know i need a Binscii
converter, but GSCII+ NDA always gives me some type of error with what
download.  I call the internet through lynx at my school and am forced to
download in Proterm with Kermit.  Other times, though, I have found a way
to use zmodem and such and use Spectrum and the same thing happens.  Could
someone please review the concepts of downloading on the GS for me?  I am
a little confused!  The program I really want to get to work is Hyper C.
