A change in copyright status can only be done by the author/
publisher, or the authors's life +50 years automatic expiration.
Unless you feel like waiting, your best bet is to contact the authors
and ask them to reclassify them so that everyone can legally enjoy
them. To paraphrase you, so why in the h*ll aren't you doing that?
