I'm having difficulty making a CD from my download of Golden Orchard
and/or Golden Grail. I'm guessing it has to do with file structure
assigned by the PC I used to download... but I don't know. Cider Press
can open these files up just fine to reveal all of the files within.

The IIGS is running 6.0.1 and works just fine with one hard drive
formatted to HFS, so I don't think HFS is the issue.

When I boot up with Golden Orchard in the CDROM, I get a nice icon which
opens to "GoldenO_ISO.1". Clicking on it the GS says "Unable to open
this file". If I put the CD in a Mac, it can't open it either.

When I boot up with Golden Grail, I can open the CD and read the three
text files, and open the folder with the GO disks, but I can't get any
of the 32 meg partitions to open.

I'm sure I'm missing some link; or may have to burn the CD somehow
differently. I couldn't find an answer in the FAQ's, but I hope someone
here could steer me in the right direction. I'm sure just one little
thing is stopping me.

Hi Rich,

From your description, it sounds like you've burnt the ISO image as a
*file* onto the disc - i.e. just dragged the ISO file into the files
to be burnt onto the disc? This will not work.

You need to find the option in your burning software that is similar
to "Burn disc image". Selecting this should give you the option to
open and burn files of ISO type. This will burn the *filesystem* to
the disc as opposed to a *file*.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Mike

Mike,
I sure thank you! That info was just what I needed (even though I still don't quite understand the differences between the two processes.)

Just for the record, I was using Nero Express (6) for my burning app. It DID have a choice to copy a "Disk Image". I got stymied just a bit at the file type choices, but ultimately was able to burn the .iso to the CD and it showed up just fine on my IIGS. I'm currently copying files to the IIGS's assistant, a Mac Performa which has much more hard drive space available. Then they will be readily available and easily transferable via Appletalk to the IIGS whenever I need one. (Or, more likely; whenever I get curious about a particular Game, App or Utility!).
