Yes these do work on the IIe.  I often take files home from the office,
work on them on the IIe, and e-mail them to myself @ work (got tired of
hauling the Thinkpad around).  HFS and A2FX both work, but do require the
Superdrive and Controller Card.  They both support multiple superdrives,
even on a IIe.
