Technical question... continued !

Hello everybody,
For those who follow for a while I finally suceeded in repairing *part*
of my //e.
In fact I had lots of luck, as you can judge from the following:

I recentely moved, and while unpacking some old extension boards for a
AT IBM PC, I noticed that many socketed chips had quite the same chape
than the memory chips of my //e. So I checked and saw that it had the
same number and shape of legs also. This normally means nothing, but
since I had nothing to lose, I tried anyway... and it turned to be
exactly the same chips ! (even if the manufacterer is different). So now
the Apple //e boots correctly (the self test returns "Kernel OK" !).
But another problem came out:
This time it's the //e drives. If the controller is unplugged or none of
the drives plugged to the controller, the machine boots and I get the
ROM basic command line.
But when I plug one or two drives, I have one of the following problems
(apparently at random):

1) The Apple II does not boot. It makes a sort of "bi....bi....bi..."
noise, like a short boot beep that loops.
2) The Apple boots, and the drives load nothing (the red light is lit,
but it does not read the disk).

What really strange, it that it worked ONCE ! Which means that something
is Ok... :-)

Thanks for reading,
Gerard.
