Re: OS For IIGS

On this whole multitasking thing...

Okay, on the Win'95 box, it is nice to be able to have a bunch of apps
running so that I can get from one to another without having to wait for
the app to reload. But with one very specialized exception, I very seldom
need to have multiple programs actually *doing* anything. I mean, when
I put Netscape into the foreground, I'm not working with Notepad. Yes,
the various programs need to be able to process information in the
background (i.e. those applications which use serial port interrupts or
talk to the network, for instance), but whether they do it preemptively or
cooperatively doesn't matter to me so long as they do it.

In fact, the only OSes I have used that can really, cleanly handle
multiple tasks are UNIX, AmigaDOS, and EPOC-16. OS/2 seems to do a pretty
good job as well. But as a comparison between MacOS and Win95, they seem
to me to be about equally incompetent about it...

Just a user's perspective...
