There are many reasons, Jeff. Some people simply stayed with them even
when they were phased out and still use them as their main computer
because the machine does what they need it to do--which is the reason to
use *any* computer, BTW. No matter how old a computer is, if it does
what you need done on a daily basis, that's reason enough to keep it.
You don't need any further justification than that.
Others like myself, don't want to let go of these machines because of 1)
nostalgia reasons and 2) it's a great hobby computer. I love playing
the old games on it. In 1984, the Apple IIc WAS my main computer and
the first computer I ever had for home use. I later branched out into
other models (IIe, IIgs, etc.), and later still, into the Macintosh
line. I have 13 years worth of Apple II software that I'm just not
willing to part with. I don't like using emulators of any kind, so
using Apple II stuff on my Mac is just not acceptable to me--I'd rather
use the real machine whenever possible. Hope that satisfies your
curiosity.
