Yes, they did indeed intend to make sequels to the game (hence the
name).
They sacrificed a lot in terms of appearances and level of detail in
order
to make the game easily extendable. But, as is so often the case, the
company's priorities shifted, and the market changed before any sequels
ever appeared.

I did however start writing a port of Robot Odessey to the Mac a while
back.
It's still on my hard drive, I think...
