IIgs questions

Hey all.  After a brief interruption (that's lasted since 1986), I've 
finally gotten back to my Apple II experimenting.  There's only one 
problem with this: all my knowledge stops with the IIc and IIe's.  I'd 
like to pick up a IIgs for all primary use, but I don't know enough 
about them to decide what I should look for.  The question I begin with 
is, what's the difference between ROM(01) and ROM(03)?  Is that like 
BIOS revisions?  I'm sure there's much more I should know about, but of 
course I don't know what to ask.  Any references to available books or 
tech manuals would be much appreciated, as well as names of distributors 
of IIgs equipment or software.
