He's talking about Apple's slinky card. In addition to being the only periph-
eral slot memory card Apple ever made, if you look back in this thread you'll
see that he mentions gaps in the rows of chips. That's because the 256K banks
of chips on that card are set up weirdly; every fourth chip in each row is in
the same bank. The sure fire way to get the card working is to fill it up
with chips. This will cost a pittance these days if you rummage around the
junk piles in used computer stores. I've filled up every spare memory card I
have with 256K chips salvaged from junked 286 logic boards which I picked up 
for $1-2 a pop. 

I frequent the used computer store circuit quite a bit since it's a great way
to pick up spare parts. One store in particular supplied some of the 286 
boards, and last time I found some dead Mac logic boards with usable parts. A
dead IIcx board provided a usable battery, and a dead SE board supplied the 
ROMs and SWIM chip to swap onto a working 800K SE board I have on hand so that
it supports superdrives. Got a spare Plus board which looks like it should 
work, and even some plastic enclosures to go around internal drive mechs to 
keep the internal fan from sucking dust through the drive and clogging it up. 
All this loot cost less than the battery alone would cost from a mail order 
place. 

But back to the original subject, I'd get some low budget memory chips and 
fill the card up rather than monkeying with making it work with less memory.
