Pinger INIT for Zip drives
I am going to throw out an idea for programmers, but I don't
know how feasable it is. SCSI Zip Drives have a problem
when used on a GS. They "fall asleep" after twenty minutes
or so. The GS then thinks that something is wrong and the
"eject or format" dialog box pops up or, even worse, programs
may give errors.
How about writing an INIT that "pings" the drive each 10 to
15 minutes or so? That way, the drive won't fall asleep. Of
course if anyone can figure out how to tell the Zip Drive
never to sleep and write software to do that, it would even
be better. I just thought a pinger would be less difficult
to write.
(By ping, I mean read a few blocks off the drive so that it
knows its being accessed.)
Anyone up to the challenge?
