   What precisely do you mean by "extra instructions" on the ROM 3
motherboard? In the FAQ section on the GS, I do mention twice that the
latest system software does a darn good job at making the two
identical to any properly written piece of software. If anything, the
ROM 3 is less compatible with certain pieces of software (rare old
demos and games, mostly, though) than the 01. I'd like to know what's
possibly confusing so I can rewrite it to be clearer.

   As you correctly noted, the ROM 01 *can* connect to a HD, extra
RAM, modems, etc. If things are working fine for you, I recommend that
you add those components a long time before you touch the motherboard.
