Since I haven't actually *done* it, I can't say if it's just that easy or
not.  But it should be, AFAIK, since the GS includes AppleTalk built-in. 
I plan to do it soon, since my son has just dusted off the GS and they're
a room apart.  Everything I've read/heard indicates that LocalTalk cables
should work just great.
