The problem is that the Harmonie drivers from Vitesse (see FAQ for
order info) only works with a "direct connect" printer, not an
AppleTalk one.  However, chances are that the 850C can take a straight
serial connection just as well as an AppleTalk connection.  Check
the manual to be sure.

The manual should also address the "autoswitch" question.
