help: apple iie card/lcii

hello 
im interesting in obtaining information about apple iie cards for the lc
series macs. i currently have one through a friend that is not working
and does not have either the cabling or the drive attached. when
launched it shows up as "faulty - problem 1". in the first place is
their anybody who could tell me what this means - it has been suggested
that i may have to change the roms for it to work on my lcii.any
information on iie cards in general and this problem in particular would
be appreciated.
