I gave it six hours to cool down before posting.

It's very likely a chip, although there is a slightly corroded 100uF
cap on the board.  I'm going to replace that today while I wait for
Steve to scan the schematics (and thanks Steve for doing that).

Right now the only symptom I can see is the system boots fine into
DOS, but when booting the CPM disk, the CPM OS can't find the card.
