Re: SLIP/PPP question (NOT the usual)

There's a very small (40k or so) shell program that uses AppleTalk to
allow you to telnet. I posted extensive information about it (bugs
I've found and various workarounds) a few months ago (to
comp.sys.apple2.comm), so you might want to dig it up with DejaNews.
I should really archive long posts like that :)

To recount some of the problems quickly: it reads the keyboard
directly, so it's very lossy under gno; it locks up when sending a lot
of keystrokes (like holding delete to delete a paragraph); it doesn't
have vt-100 emulation (I installed gnocon's on my unix account); and
it doesn't work with the gateway in a different zone, although the
author and I were able to hack something together for my specific
situation. As the readme file says, Derek's gs/tcp is vastly
superior, so the author's suspended working on it. For help, send him
or I (handel@stolaf.edu) a note.

Here's the readme file that came with it. It was in an archive called
TelnetGS.shk or something similar.

----------BEGIN README----------

* Yet Another Telnet with built-in TCP/IP *

Supports only MacIP (IP over LocalTalk), no SLIP nor PPP
A bridge is needed to telnet to Ethernet Workstation
Reply for 'ping' supported
No VT-100 Emulation
No DNS resolution, enter IP address directly (" telnet 192.168.2.2" etc)
Works with ORCA shell v1.x (no good for 2.x)
Sometimes crashes on exit
Development suspended (Taubert's GS/TCP would be better when released)
Freeware, source code included
