I also teach in a lab of 32 GS's. I have never had a desire to network
them. Operating from disks I have nearly 100% uptime. I have had as
many as 9 sections a day, never less than 7. A down network would be
a disaster as I usually have 3 minutes between sections. As far as
software costs go, I have always felt that buying lab packs worked out
about the same as buying site licenses.
I'd suggest getting at least a meg in each box and using GSOS 5.04
boot disks for 16 bit aps. Learn to crack so kids never touch an
original disk.
The sad thing is that my school will close the lab at the end of this
year and stop offering any computer classes. I'll be teaching
two hour combined Math/Science classes next year. All our classrooms
will be getting 3 pc's on a LAN but it will take a couple years to
implement. What a joke.
