powerbook problem

Hello,

Recently my powerbook 190 has seized working. I think it happened after
installing a startupscreen. 
I worked on it, shut it down and the next day tried to start it.
What happened was, it started fine until the little screen that says
"welcome to macintosh" was displayed and then it hung. A detail is that
the little screen flashes (only the borders though).
No one I know , knows what the problem is.
I've tried to start without any control panels or extensions. 
I've tried resetting the P-ram.
I've tried to boot from an external scsi. (it wont even "see" the drive)
I've tried to start from a startup-disk. (not the 190 disk, dont have it)
I've tried smashing it against a wall but all to no avail.

Can anyone please help me to solve my problem!!!!
Al my schoolwork is on it and yes, my last backup was about a month ago.
Not too 
clever but thats the way it is.

ps. I do not have access to a news server with all groups. If anyone would
