Yes and no. The person at Apple may have their wires partially crossed.
You can certainly use a PowerPC Macintosh as a server for an Apple IIgs,
by using the File Sharing support built into the system software.
However, it does not support booting the Apple IIgs from the server.
This feature is only provided by the full AppleShare server software,
versions 2.x and 3.x, neither of which will run on a PowerPC-based
Macintosh.
At least some versions of AppleShare 4.x should work on a PowerPC, but
AppleShare 4.x does not include the Apple II network boot support.
