Over 99.9% of the old stuff will work.

How much is expensive?  The less-equipped systems seem (to me) to cost
around $350

Yes, but a IIgs differs in that instead of being good right out of the
box, you'll need more stuff to "bring it up to the standards of OK",
like a hard drive, and 2-4MB of RAM (everyone here seems to have an
accelerator, too).  You'll also "need" to get System 6, which is often
free.
