There are only two choices for each slot, The Apple default or "Your
Card." See the control panel (Open-Apple-Control-Esc),...

In my case I have a 3.5" drive in slot 5 with the Apple default (Smart
Port), and a 5.25" disk drive card in slot 6 with two drives
attached. Slot 6 is set to "Your Card."
