But how do you know that that's a bare bones //e?  :)

The way I see it, it has a DuoDisk, a decked out product of the time.
Thus, the user (Woz) probably continued enhancing it.  It probably
has a Zip chip and Turbo ASB serial inside and thus can handle up to
230,000bps transfers.  Woz has been updated on Apple II developments
by Auri for the last two years or so and thus knows full well what it
takes to make his invention zoom.
