The symptoms of both can vary quite widely, and it is usually impossible
to tell which problem is occurring. The most common ones (from either
or both causes) I've seen are:
- Devices not recognised by the computer.
- Crashing or hanging.
- Errors being reported when accessing the drive.
- Very slow access to devices.
Insufficient termination means that signals transferred over the bus can
"bounce" at the end of the cable and cause interference with subsequent
data, tending to cause data corruption.
Low or missing termination power cause the terminators to act as
dampers, weakening the signals and making it harder for the devices to
receive data correctly.
