I am still trying to help folks keep their II's running (mine too).  You
are right the simpler machines do seem faster on the I-net.  I was on a
high speed Pentium with a T phone line and is was so slow that I kept
cutting off the web sites before they were loaded.  One big problem is
that many new sites are using frames that you cannot read with Lynx, so
netscape and their buddies are starting to limit out access to the net.
Most good web sites have alternative text only sites, but the new attitude
is that these are unecessary, on an increasing basis.

I access the net on a variety of Machines but my IIe seems fastest, not to
mention with 3 megs I have a heck of a lot of scrollback for huge files to
download quickly.

My IIe is compatable with my (just died) Powerbook, via Superdrive and
file exchange programs, so i intend to keep it for a good long while.
