If your ribbon cable is long enough to reach both drives, you could simply
add a second connector; 50-pin internal SCSI connectors aren't hard to
come by, and the pinouts are exactly the same for all devices on the chain...

I have a SCSI hard drive mounted inside a Vulcan-GS case, so I have a
cable that runs from the SCSI drive, to a DB-25 female connector attached
to the back of my computer, terminating at a DB-25 male connector which
plugs into the HS-SCSI card and just sort of hangs down inside the
computer.  So I still have an (unused) external SCSI connector in case I
ever get another SCSI device or six.  Sort of the opposite of your
situation...
