GEOS Owner
I saw a thread the other day discussing the C64 version of GEOS
and GeoWorks. I'll just make a few corrections:
GEOS is still owned by Geoworks. Republishing right of the PC
version are owned by New Deal Inc who work closely with GW.
The C64 version was NOT sold to some "usergroup". C64 production and
marketing rights were handed to Creative Micro Designs Inc.
CMD have continued development of GEOS and its peripherals,
and GEOS V3 will ship soon. CMD also develop and sell hard drives,
RAM drives (up to 16Mb) UART cards and 3.5" drives, all manufactured
to work seamlessly with GEOS (the CMD hard drive even has a LED to
indicate when GEOS accesses occur. Cool or what?!).
Finally, CMD have released an accellerator cartridge for the 64
running a WDS 65816 (yes, same as in the GS!) at 20Mhz, with 128K
Sram for the O/S and takes 16Mb 72 pin simms for internal RAM xpansion.
GEOS at 20Mhz with 16-bit code upgrades. Drool.
C64 GEOS based applications and accessories are fully compatable with
Apple2 GEOS provided that only legal system calls are used.
Hope that clears things up.
