If all the above were assumed to be true then yes, it would seem extremely
strange, and I would construe the actions taken by joe to be spiteful and
vindictive measures initiated solely to pursue a personal vendetta.
As for whether joe is a "slimeball capitalist who took advantage of Brutal
Deluxe", only the authors of BD could let someone take advantage of them,
in which case it would be their fault.
