MacOS on a Classic II
I'm going to warn you all now, this question has nothing to do with the II,
but I'm asking it here because everybody here is smarter than the mac-only
people that I CAN'T get an answer from.
What's the latest OS that can be run on a Classic II/Performa 200? According
to Apple's spec page, it's system 7.5.3. I put 7.5.3 on it last night, now my
system has been rendered un-bootable. The CD I installed it from says "Apple
System 7.5.3, for Power Macintosh 7200, 7500, 7600, 8500, and 9500 series."
Now, any normal intelligent person would think this would not run on the
Classic II, but I thought that it meant that's what computer it shipped
with... NOT what it only runs on. I thought Apple still only made 1 version
of the OS that runs on all processors. Is this thing actually compiled for
the PowerPC chip? Do I need to look for a version of 7.5.3 that is designed
for earlier macs? Thanks in advance for any help.
(This actually involves networking with a GS and a PC down the road, so I
guess it's not TOO far off topic) :P
