Try a simpler setup. There could be a configuration problem with
Express, for example.

I suggest you get into ProDOS-8 and launch BASIC.SYSTEM (or even just
drop into BASIC without any operating system loaded by pressing
Control-Reset shortly after the "Apple IIgs" title is displayed) and try
printing from BASIC as follows:

]PR#1
]PRINT "Hello World!"
]PR#0

(I'm assuming the printer is connected to the printer port in this
case.)

You should see at least the "Hello World!" on the printer, and probably
also some of the commands.

If this doesn't print anything, then I'd suggest checking the Control
Panel settings - confirm that slot 1 is set to "Printer Port", not "Your
Card". Also check the settings for the printer port: set everything to
default values, and repeat the above test (starting with the PR#1).

In particular, check the baud rate and character format settings match
the settings on the printer.

If you are able to print from BASIC, then there is probably a setup
problem with the GS/OS printer settings. I'm not familiar with Express,
but for direct printing, you should use the "DC Printer" control panel
to select the printer port and ImageWriter driver. Everything else is
handled through the Printer Port control panel settings.
