My power supply's had a light buzz for years, changing in tone when
certain things happen, like the mouse running up and down a menu. Bare
audible unless nothing else's running in my room. With my stereo at
normal levels, I can't really notice it.
If he's paranoid about it, encourage him to make good backups. Even
if nothing happens, this'll be a nice habit to get into.
