Ok, Thanks to all who pointed to the CPU as the potential fault. I swapped in the CPU from the working machine and the dead one sprang to life. I then tried the "dead" CPU in the "good" machine and there was no problem at all. Guess it was a dirty pin on the chip, something like that..... all good. You guys are brilliant, thank you.
