Videx U/L-case board

I opened an Apple II+ the other day and two things surprised me (I know
only the Apple II original very well):

First, there was a board labeled "VIDEX" tacked under the keyboard; sure
enough, the character generator ROM has also been replaced. The card does
tie into the keyboard connector, and a wire-wrap appears to be in place to
enable the classic ShiftMod. The card perplexes me, however, because it
has a 9-pin D connector (male) on it that has nothing connected. What does
this do? Also, there are two sets of jumpers. One of the jumpers obviously
determines whether or not CTRL must be held to enable the RESET key. What
does the other one do?

Secondly, there was a 9334 DIP TTL chip taped inside the case, on a static
pad. It isn't hooked up to anything; it's a spare. Anybody have any
folklore about what this might have been for?

The system works fine and CHR$(65 + 32) does indeed show "a" as opposed to
CHR$(65) showing "A". I just wonder where I can learn more about the VIDEX
card and its features. The Shift key does not trigger a case shift, btw...
I didn't try Ctrl+A...

PS: No -- that's all there is. There is no companion card in any of the
expansion slots (ignoring the Language Card).

Thanks for the time you've already spent reading this, and double-thanks,
in advance, if you can teach me something about this card.
