Printing Trouble with an Apple IIe
A couple of weeks ago I was given an Apple IIe with an Okidata
82a Microline printer. The Apple is equipped with a printer
card which is labelled: "Computer Accessories" Model J12-A
"Graphics Printer Interface for the Apple IIe".
My problem is that as received, the hardware is configured to
print block graphics and will not print ASCII characters at all.
I would appreciate any help that would point me in the direction
of getting ASCII text output. I have the following questions:
1) Is the Model j-12-a interface capable of outputting in ASCII?
The board has a set of 8 DIP switchwes but, I have no document-
ation of their use.
2) Was "Computer Accessories" actually a hardware manufacturer?
Or who made the J-12-A interface?
3) Does anyone have the dip switch functions for the Oki 82a?
I pulled the cover but did not find any labels inside like I
have sometimes seen.
4) If the J-12-A interface will not output ASCII, what should
I look for in a replacement card?
Finally, I have checked the integrity of the printer cable and
it is OK. I also connected my Epson LQ-510 from my 486 to the
APPLE IIe and it printed basically gibberish non-ASCII.
Ay Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
