Well, if you have one of the newer inkjets that will work with a PC
running DOS programs, you can connect it to the II and get results. For
instance, my Mom recently bought a Pentium box (spit!), and purchased a
Canon BubbleJet BJC-4200. But she bought the printer before the computer
arrived, so I plugged it into the ][e, and it worked just great for
printing 12pt Courier text. All you need is a parallel card. If you are
a programmer, or if you are using a program such as Apple Writer that
allows you to send your own printer codes, you can even use any of the
built in fonts and features, but you have to do it "the hard way."
Simple test: If you can plug it into a DOS box and enter:
C>DIR > LPT1:
and get clean text on the printer, then you can hook it up to a parallel
card on a slotted ][ and get clean text.
Note that if you are using a program that doesn't send form-feed commands
(such as PFS:Write) you need to set your page length to 60 lines instead
of 66.
