Another possibility is that the keyboard decoder chip has a stuck output 
bit (the repeat bit) which can cause the same problem (continuous repeat 
of the last character pressed). I found that problem in an Apple II once. 
I used a scope and saw the stuck repeat line. I think it is pin 5 of the 
the decoder UE14 (AY-5-3600-PRO), but I may not be correct on that. 
Replacing that chip solved th problem. Of course, that is assuming that a 
key is not really stuck.
