   The desktop file is built by the Finder, containing icons,
application paths, window size and position info, etc about files on
the drive. They occasionally get corrupted (though I've never
experienced one-- I'd like to, so I can figure out what and where
things are going astray and patch it), and no real harm is done in
toasting the files.
