   Saves you the bother of reconnecting, etc. Some are sysadmins so
they keep an irc window open on their machine at home, even when they
go to work, or vice versa. Some forgot to log out, some don't care.

   Unix has a great program called 'screen' which lets you restart a
set of terminal connections later, even if you're at a different
computer, the phone line gets hung up, etc. It keeps things running on
the host machine. 

   I connect to visi in the morning from home, start screen. I can
then go to work and 'get' those screens as if nothing's happened. If
Win95 needs to reboot, doesn't affect what's up. I can be away from my
desk for a while, and nothing'll happen. Thru all this, irc is usually
running. I don't monitor it all the time, but I'm connected.
