OK, they can (how well this works is another story), but as you say
yourself, they are *very few*. What I meant was 'regular 8 bit Apple IIs'.
What's the point of discussing a possibility which almost nobody can use?
It makes you dream, but it never becomes reality. Like a joint :-) 

Adalbert mentioned in another reply to my post that 8 bit programs are
faster than 16 bit GS programs. Hum, this revolutionizes the computer
industry! Let's go back to 4-bit machines... :-)
