First off, this post could have been better
directed. comp.sys.apple2.gno is for talking about the 'GNO/ME
Multitasking environment for the GS.' A far better choice would have
been either comp.sys.apple2.comm (for communications, modems, etc) or
just comp.sys.apple2 (general Apple II discussions). My followup is
set to go to comp.sys.apple2.gno in addition to the two I just
mentioned, but subsequent followups should only go to those two.

Your friend can access the internet if he has a comm program for
his GS and a dialup shell account with a local internet service
provider. [PPP and SLIP support are not available right now.] There
are several comm programs for the GS from freeware to shareware and
commercial. Finding a local ISP that does shell accounts may be harder
or easier-- he'll have to do the looking himself.

This question about internet access, ftp sites for Apple II
software (plus tips and tools needed to download them), and much more
are all answered in the comp.sys.apple2 Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQ), archived at http://www.visi.com/~nathan/a2/faq/csa2.html [It
can also be emailed on request if you don't have a WWW browser.]
I'd encourage you to read it, as it contains the answers to many
Apple II questions you or he may have.
