True, although I find Lemmings a highly enjoyable game,
I very much doubt it would make my top-10 list (or even top-
25 list) of best type of game available. However, we Apple IIgs
users are *extremely* fortunate to have any games written for
our platform at all these days! There is little profit to be
made (if any at all) writing Apple IIgs game software with such
a small market. Groups like Brutal Deluxe, Ninjaforce or other
individuals, are programming software mostly due to their strong
fondness of the machine. People like them are the reason I still
continue to use the IIgs, I haven't given given up on it because
others still believe in it too.
Another thing to consider, even with extra memory, hardrives
and fast accelerators, there's a limit to how far you can push
the GS. I don't think it's realistic to hope for Duke Nukem 3D,
DOOM II, QUAKE, Mech Warrior, Nascar, Mortal Kombat or dozens of
other modern PC games. Even the Second Sight SVGA board won't
help here (not that the board has been exploited for any use,
other than viewing pretty pictures). In any case, if LemminGS
isn't too your liking, there's always Bomberman and Wolf 3D! :)
Sure I'd rather have Duke Nukem 3D, with multi-player modem
support on my IIgs, but I'll settle for Lemmings for now. ;)
