What is probably happening is that the drive has not spun up when you
tried to boot. The Apple HS card, when set to one SCSI ID (3?), will
add a several second delay to the boot process. This should give the
drive enough time to spin up and allow you to avoid the error.
Otherwise, you can let the error appear, wait for a few seconds, and
do an openapple-cntrl-reset warm boot sequence.
If it is a problem with the volume, back up the files, reformat the
drive, then put the files back. That should fix it.
