SCSI Boot Error?

I'm troubleshooting a problem with a Q-Drive and an Apple High Speed SCSI
Card and I'm a bit stumped. The card and drive are from a IIe that's
performed flawlessly for years. All of a sudden we're getting the message
"SCSI BBOT ERROR" when we try to boot the drive. I put the card and drive
on a GS to take a look at it and it seems to work okay. You can access
data and programs from the Finder. I ran it through Deliverence which
found a damaged bit map (it looked like a _minor_ problem) but that didn't
fix the boot problem. As a band-aid fix I wrote a tiny BASIC program on a
5.25" disk which we boot, then in turn launches the file manager on the
hard drive...

             ...and it seems to work, but we'd really like to get a real
fix. BTW, I also tried another Apple High Speed SCSI card with the same
results which suggests a drive problem. The cards have been configured
with all the DIP switches in the down position. The drive is terminated,
and I tried diferent SCSI ID setting just for kicks.
 
Any thoughts?
