These came out after the ][+, with Applesoft and the Autostart ROM, came 
out.  It either provides Applesoft, for use in an original ][, or Integer 
BASIC for use in a ][+.  It depends on which chips are installed. 

When the red switch is down, you use the ROMs on the motherboard, ie as 
if no card was added.  When the switch is up, you use the ROMs on the 
card.  If it's the Integer card, you might also have the Programmer's Aid 
#1 chip installed.

Also, having an empty socket (A2) is normal.  I'd guess that what you 
have is the Integer card.  I could be wrong of course...  :)
