Charles Turley - Please Read

Dear Mr.Turley:

I dont know if you are the person I originally spoke with about 6 months ago
but please read on anyhow. My name is steve mentzer and you called me
at work one day, a company called "Premium Finance". We talked on the phone
about a possible IIgs emulator project for the BeBox. If that is you, then
you were a very cool person and I invite you even more to read on.

Please deter from attempting to close down the last remaining shreds of apple
II freedom that still exist. Your attempts are meaningless and futile and you
are only proving to make a martyr of yourself.

For years, apple II users were "shunned" by the fancier, faster, more popular
computers such as the Commodore 64 and 128, the IBM pcXT/jr, the Amiga
etc etc etc. Yes, the apple II/II+/IIe/IIc did not compare to the
"advanced" computers, but we stuck with our machines.

We also had to deal with an "arrogant" apple computer who charged us
outrageous prices for hardware and software. It was also their corporate
attitude that dumped the Apple IIgs line "just when it was getting good".

Now you come along preaching to the masses telling us of the great immorality
that we pride ourselves on because of our desire to download software
that was once sold by the companies that developed it.

Fine, I admit that I am not paying for software that could have been bought
7 years ago, but cant be bought now. Try getting a copy of Bard's Tale I
from electronic arts. Try getting a copy of ACOS or GBBS *anywhere*.

!!!!!!! STOP PREACHING PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!

Most of the companies that used to develop this software are now defunct or
they do not support the Apple II line. I would venture to say that a company
that *has* survived the ages and moved onto other platforms doesn't care that
a handful of apple II users who mainly use PC's and Mac's download a copy
of a software product that they propably dont even have current knowledge of.

I am so tired of hearing you ramble on about piracy. For every 10 products
that I pirated when I was 13 years old, I bought 1. THAT IS BECAUSE I DIDN'T
HAVE ANY MONEY THEN. I *buy* software now. I owe my entire career to the
legacy of the apple II. My ability to produce tight and fast code today
came from a 64k Apple IIe.

Just to let you know. If you shut down asimov, I can and will replace it.
I am a subscriber on one of the largest ISP providers around. I also have
a piece of software that allows me to generate HTML pages with current
dynamic IP addressing info. This will effectively allow me to use "anonymous"
IP addressing and allow ANYONE to hit my HTML page and branch off to my
FTP site.

And the best thing about this is that I have already downloaded the *entire*
asimov apple II archive. Over 2700 files and 125 megs. Count it. I got it.
I will replace asimov.. and be almost untraceable...

Neat, eh? I thought so. You wont kill the remaining spirit of the Apple II.
