desktop full - apple IIe

Having trouble creating a new file on an Apple IIe, when I try to save
(create) a new file on the desktop it goes all the way thru and lets
me name the file and when I hit enter it says the desktop is full.

Using a disk that has ProDos 1.1.1 and Appleworks 2.0a on it.
There are no open files on the desktop, all that is showing is
the basic starting menu and options window.  Any help would
be appreciated.

Oh also when I use this disk (and its the only one I have) in the
bottom right corner of the screen it says 0k available, does that
mean anything special or that would be causing this?
